A
'handy' way to find the tables from 6x6 to 10x10:
Each finger (thumbs count as fingers here!) is numbered as
in the diagram.
Touch the two fingers together for the required multiplication
(the illustration shows 7x8 or 8x7). Count as 2x10 for the
two fingers touching, plus 1x10 for each finger below them
(in the example shown, that is 5 x10 = 50.) The fingers remaining
(in the example shown, that is 3 fingers on one hand and 2
fingers on the other), are multiplied together (3x2 = 6) Add
the two totals together = 56.
Example 2: For the multiplication 6x7 or 7x6. Touch the two
fingers together - no.6 on one hand and no.7 on the other.
Count as 2x10 for the two fingers touching, plus 1x10 for
any fingers below - in this example that will be 3x10 = 30.
The fingers remaining - in this example that will be 3 fingers
on one hand and 4 fingers on the other - are multiplied together,
3x4 =12. Add the two totals together = 42.
Example 3: For the multiplication 9x9. Touch the two fingers
together- no.9 on one hand and no.9 on the other. Count as
2x10 for the two fingers touching plus 1x10 for any fingers
below - in this example that will be 8x10 = 80. The fingers
remaining - in this example that will be one finger on each
hand- are multiplied together, 1x1 =1. Add the two totals
together = 81.
