Synthetic / Linguistic Phonic programmes, resources and training:

Unlike many of the programmes listed on the DCSF's phonics website (see Room 101), all the programmes below are genuine SYNTHETIC / LINGUISTIC phonics programmes, based on scientific principles, with explicit phonics, sounding-out and blending at their core. In addition, there is strong and rigorous evidence of their effectiveness in the classroom and other settings.

N.B. It is essential to use decodable books / cumulative text alongside ALL these programmes for initial reading practice.

S ou n d R ea d i ng S y s t e m XXX www.aowm73.dsl.pipex.com/dyslexics/resources_and_further_16.htm A scripted, linguistic phonics, REMEDIAL, one-to-one programme based on the work of Professor Diane McGuinness (author of Why Children Can't Read) and adapted, with her permission, by Fiona Nevola B.Ed.(Sussex) and M.Sc.(Oxen). Teaches reading and spelling quickly and efficiently. Highly suitable for 'dyslexics' and struggling or non-readers of all ages (6+) including adults. The Sound Reading System in action The programme has also been used successfully as a whole-class programme, in Further Education Colleges and in Youth Offender Institutions. N.B. Phonics International. XX Debbie Hepplewhite's online synthetic phonics programme www.phonicsinternational.com/ Comprehensive range of resources along with instructions for teaching the English Alphabet Code.Unit 1 (out of 12 units) is free to download (no registration needed) with no commitment to purchase further units. The Sounds Book activity sheets are the core of the programme and they include guidance on every sheet right through the programme.
